Dr. Susan Dowd (Shack) grew up in Oak Park and earned her doctorate with high honors in veterinary medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.
Working at humane societies inspired her to become a veterinarian, and she continues to have a strong interest in treating adopted and stray animals.
She was associated with practices in Oak Park and Brookfield for the past six years. Before that she worked at both a 24-hour emergency clinic and a humane society clinic that served low-income clients and their pets. Dr. Dowd has volunteered with The Anti-Cruelty Society, P.A.C.T. Humane Society, and R.A.V.S. (Remote Area Veterinary Services).
With the opening of Arbor Animal Hospital, Dr. Dowd is realizing a number of professional goals: designing her own practice where excellent veterinary service can be provided at reasonable prices, bringing together a team of experienced staff who understand the importance of customer service and compassionate care, and creating a comfortable environment for clients and their pets.
Susan’s son Jack is an active toddler who loves feeding Cheerios to Elsa, their 11-year-old German Shepherd.
